It is our pleasure to welcome you to The Futures of the U.S. project conducted by graduate students in the Futures Studies program at the University of Houston. The graduate students in this course have assembled material on the seven key long-term issues affecting the future of the United States and provide critical information important to public discussion of the Presidential election. The Futures of the U.S. material can be used before and after the Presidential election in discussions about the likely long-term future of our country. We have chosen the year of 2028 as our time horizon. By 2028 another five Presidential elections and many other events will occur and the potential for change and surprise is vast. Our mission in the University of Houston Futures Studies program is to bring futures thinking into the whole educational system so that we are better informed and prepared for they ways in which our country and the world might develop.
