Amnesty -- Removing the criminal status of illegal or undocumented immigrants by allowing them to obtain proper authorization to stay in the country

Citizen
-- A person owing loyalty to and entitled by birth or naturalization to the protection of and rights given by a state or nation.

Deportation -- Forcefully transferring an illegal or undocumented immigrant to another country.

Emigrant -- A person who leaves one country or region to settle in another.

Green card
aka United States Permanent Resident Card -- either the process of becoming a permanent resident or the actual card which shows an immigrant's legal permanent resident (LPR) status.

Guest Workers -- Workers who have obtained official work visas which authorizes them to work in a foreign country.

Illegal immigrant -- A person who enters or settles in a country without proper authorization. The two most common forms of illegal immigration are crossing a border without permission or staying in a country longer than one is allowed.

Immigrant -- A person who enters and settles in a country or region to which he or she is not native.

Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) -- A person authorized to enter and stay in another country indefinitely. In the United States, permanent residents possess a green card.

Naturalization
-- The process of becoming a citizen of another country.

Undocumented
immigrant -- see Illegal immigrant.

Visa -- The authorization to enter and stay in another country for a period of time. The three most common types of visas are 1) tourist, 2) education, and 3) work visas.
